New power station in Mae Sot

The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) kicked start the second power station in Mae Sot, a district of the western province of Tak, on Tuesday, to accommodate the planned establishment of a special economic zone.

The temporary power station is located in Mae Sot, the district that links with Myanmar's Myawaddy and is planned to house the SEZ.  There are 76,980 power users in the district, of which demand has increased about 11 per cent per annum. Over 88 per cent of the users are households.
PEA Governor Sermsakul Klaikaew said that the SEZ would boost electricity demand in the area. Aside from the temporary station that required Bt1 billion in investment, the agency also invests additional Bt55 million in the transmission line.
