The Stop Drink Network has said celebrities who recently posted photos of themselves consuming branded alcohol drinks on popular social media site Instagram had violated the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and should face the prospect of jail time.
The group said the celebrities had also written captions suggesting others drink the brands.
Network representative Kamron Chudecha yesterday said such posts could be deemed alcohol advertising via social media – a violation of Article 32 of the Act and punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a fine of up to Bt500,000.
The network’s representatives will meet with Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn today to demand legal action be taken against the celebrities and anyone else involved in the posts if their purpose was commercial gain.
