Aerial survey of Phu Tub Berk to aid land-use probe

The Royal Forestry Department's Phayakprai forest protection unit yesterday conducted an aerial survey of emerging tourist destination Phu Tub Berk in Phetchabun to gather information ahead of a visit to the area by its director-general Chonlatid Suraswa

Unit head Cheewaparp Cheewatham said his team was divided into groups to survey resorts for the implementation of three measures that should be done in the government’s term.
The teams will inspect 47,000 rai (6,720 hectares) that hilltribes were allowed to use to make a living to determine if land had been bought by investors to build resorts – which would be a misuse of the land.
Cheewaparp said 10 resorts had faced prosecution and received court-ordered demolition notices.
The department will probe another 17 resorts and formulate a master plan for land management.
