Roadside bomb hits police, soldiers in Narathiwat

Seven soldiers were slightly injured and their pickup truck was damaged in a roadside bomb attack in Narathiwat’s Reu So district early yesterday morning.

The explosion targeted the 16-strong team of police and soldiers on their way back from an operation to arrest a suspect in the December 21 grenade attack on the Reu So traffic police booth. The operation had proven fruitless and they were returning to their base when the bomb went off.
Police, forensic officers and bomb squad inspected the scene at around 8am, as a precaution against more insurgent traps. The explosion created a one-metre-deep and two-metre-wide crater in the road and officers found fragments of the bomb, which was attached to a cooking gas cylinder, which suspected insurgents detonated from a wooded area.
