Myanmar politician objects Koh Tao verdict

A Myanmar political group, 88 Generation Peace and Open Society, today showed its objection against the death sentence handed down to two Myanmar migrant workers.

In an open letter to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Min Ko Naing, a leader of the political group, said that the verdict came out despite international lawyers and human rights groups publicly pointed out that the Myanmar workers were wrongly accused by Thai police, there was a lack of key witnesses, and flaws in DNA tests and procedures of forensic pathologists during the police investigation occurred.
"The case proves that the Thai judiciary has weaknesses and there is a significant ground for international criticism. We want our citizens to enjoy justice and the right to fair trial.
"Hence, we hereby object those death sentences of two Myanmar migrant workers. We urge you to pay an utmost attention to review this case and the verdict," said Min Ko Naing.
