Narat said the Justice Minister’s recent meeting with related agencies had agreed that such devices could help solve the problem of crowded prisons hence the Courts of Justice would soon draft a criminal code amendment to let courts use EM bracelets on bailed defendants.
He also revealed a further plan to propose a budget to buy or lease another 3,000 EM bracelets in fiscal year 2017, as such devices might be also be used as a punishment option for moderate crimes – besides the current use on petty-crime defendants.
The device would also make it possible for many poor suspects to get bail and make a living while they are awaiting trial, as the use of the EM bracelet would mean lower bail money, he said.
