SAT approve Somyot as new Thai FA president

The Sports Authority of Thailand has approved former national police chief Somyot Poompanmuang as the new president of the Football Association of Thailand following his landslide election victory last week.

The retired police chief secured 64 votes out of 68 cast at the poll conducted by Fifa-appointed normalisation committee (NC) on February 11to succeed suspended Worawi Makudi as the head of Thai football.
After world football’s governing body Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation gave its approval earlier to Somyot’s election triumph, SAT governor Sakol Wannapong revealed on Wednesday that his office also already endorsed the 61-year-old to become the 17th president of the Thai FA.
