Junta not seeking to perpetuate power: Suwapan

Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suwapan Tanyuwanttana Friday refuted that the current regime is trying to preserve its power by reforming it to a transition-assisting mechanism, but insisted that the country should be under ‘extraordinary rule’ for three

The Cabinet’s proposal on the new constitution to the Constitution Drafting Commission unveiled Thursday included a special set of rules for the transitional period in a bid to avoid political turmoil.
Suwapan Friday said the recommendation was out of concern that the country, after an election, would face another deep divide which could lead it to being a ‘failed state’. Thus, the “special power” was rather crucial or the administration would not be able to go on with the repetition of political unrest.
