Myanmar government nominees approved

Yangon - The new parliament in Myanmar Thursday approved Aung San Suu Kyi and 17 other nominees - including one with a fake degree- for ministerial positions in the incoming government.

All 18 nominees, set to hold 21 ministries between them, were approved by parliament, although their individual posts are yet to be confirmed.
The man tipped to become finance minister, Kyaw Win, was revealed during the nomination process to have a fake PhD.
Kyaw Win, 68, admitted to local media that he had on his CV a masters degree and PhD from Brooklyn Park University, a fake institution created by a Pakistan-based software company.
"I am not going to call myself 'Dr' any more, as I know now that it is a fake university," he was quoted as saying by the Myanmar Times on Wednesday.
Another nominee, possible commerce minister Than Myint, said that a US university he studied at was subsequently shut down by the US government over its accreditation.
"I had studied online six years for that master degree and PhD. So, I don't know what had happened to the university. For me, I claim myself I am honest with those degrees," Than Myint told dpa by phone.
