Overwhelming interest in govt's housing scheme

The junta's affordable housing scheme, so-called Baan Pracha Rath, has witnessed overwhelming success with over 33,050 individuals seeking subsidised loans from participating financial institutions, said the government's spokesman.

Major Sansern Kaewkamnerd did not reveal the combined value of the loan applications submitted to the banks since the scheme was kicked off on March 23 until April 18.
Nearly all of the applications, 31,352, were filed at Government Savings Bank.
Sansarn said that of total, 1,628 loan applicants have received approvals.
He asserted that the overwhelming interest was in line with the government's determination to boost housing affordability among low-income earners, including civil servants.
"The prime minister was elated with the positive response but he was concerned that some applications have not yet been approved, including those from indebted civil servants," Sansern said.
