Obama to host state dinner for Singapore's prime minister

Washington - US President Barack Obama will host a rare state dinner for Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in August, the White House said Wednesday.

The leaders will hold talks at the White House on August 2 to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the US and Singapore.
"The two leaders will celebrate the bilateral relationship between Singapore and the United States that has served as an anchor for the US rebalance to Asia," spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.
Singapore is part of the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal agreed last year as well as the international fight against Islamic State and the Paris Climate agreement, the White House noted.
"The two leaders will discuss how our relationship can continue to address international challenges and advance a rules-based order for the Asia-Pacific," Earnest said.
