Cop transferred after allegedly receiving bribe from colleague

A Bangkok policeman has been transferred to an inactive post in a bid to boost public confidence in the force after he was charged with accepting a Bt700,000 bribe from a scorned colleague who had coveted an inspector job but did not get it.

Bang Rak Crime Police deputy inspector, Captain Chaninthat Ratchinotrai, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to Bt100,000 or both.
Nimit Mai traffic police deputy inspector, Captain Chanchai Yensuk, last week filed a police complaint accusing Chaninthat as duping him out of the Bt700,000 he allegedly gave him at a petrol station on Vibhavadi Road on June 8.
Acting Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn Thursday said Chaninthat’s alleged attempt to return the money to Chanchai was evidence of his guilt.
