Police sure they will get Monta on human trafficking
METROPOLITAN Police Bureau acting chief Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn said yesterday he was confident police would soon get an arrest warrant on human trafficking charges against “high society” figure Monta “Ying Kai” Yokratanakan.
Earlier, the Ratchadapisek Criminal Court had said it needed more evidence to prove the charge.
The trafficking charge is linked to allegations that Monta forced a 17-year-old Mae Hong Son girl to work without pay or for delayed wages from 2009 to 2010 by threatening to have her parents arrested.
Sanit said he would ask the investigation team, led by his deputy Maj-General Jaruwat Waisaya, to submit additional findings by tomorrow.
He also said that he would contact three Laotian workers who fled to Laos after being accused of theft by Monta to see if they can substantiate their claims of innocence.a
Monta has been detained at the Central Women’s Correctional Jail since July 7 pending charges of perjury for giving false information about a criminal offence that implicated another person, attempted human trafficking and lese majeste.
Meanwhile, Prapawan’s lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap said he would take one of the Laotian workers to meet police on Friday and ask deputy police chief General Pongsapat Pongcharoen to revoke all arrest warrants resulting from Monta’s police complaints.
Songkran also revealed that an elderly Sakhon Nakhon woman, identified only as Joy, who worked as a maid for Monta in 2007-08, has gone missing.
Monta allegedly tried to adopt Joy’s good-looking daughter, and an argument ensued when Joy refused, he said, adding that Monta filed criminal charges against Joy, though no police records of the former maid’s prosecution have been found. But this report was confirmed by a hilltribe woman called Dalin. He also urged those who know about Joy’s whereabouts to contact him.
A police team has allegedly gone to Sakhon Nakhon to look for Joy and her daughter, as well as another former employee called Noina.
