Immigration Police Thursday announced the arrest of fugitive lawyer Yasuo Tsubak, 27, who was accused of conspiring with others in stock fraud that caused damages worth 12 million yen (about Bt4 billion) in 2007.
As of press time, Thai police were awaiting Japan’s confirmation of the suspect’s identity. National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda and Immigration Police chief Pol Lt-General Natthorn Phrosunthorn will attend the man’s interrogation session this morning before he is sent back to Japan within four days.
Separately, Transnational Crime Coordination Centre deputy chief Pol Lt-General Suchat Theerasawat told a press conference at the Royal Thai Police head office in Bangkok that the Slovakian suspect Michal Grujbar, 38, was arrested in front of a Koh Samui hotel and initially charged with overstaying his visa. Police investigators later learned that the man, while working as a hospital director in Zlate Moravce City in 2012-2013, had allegedly siphoned a total of 282,935.46 euros (about Bt10.9 million) and then fled to Thailand.
The Slovakian court as well as the Interpol had issued arrest warrants for him, resulting in all 190 member countries being alerted to keep a lookout for him. Thai police learned that he had been living in Koh Samui and that his visa had already expired, resulting in his arrest earlier this week. Suchat said the suspect had admitted to being the same person as the one wanted by Interpol.
