Call for ancient lintel to be returned from US exhibition
A local leader in Buri Ram’s Non Din Daeng district wants the United States to return an ancient lintel to Thailand.
“We suspect that the lintel on display at the San Francisco-based museum is from the Nong Hong Castle in our hometown,” Non Din Daeng Mayor Somchai Korchaisirikul said yesterday.
He said the lintel went missing a long time ago and it reportedly was recently displayed in San Francisco.
Somchai urged the government to help to bring the lintel back to Thailand because it was part of the country’s national heritage.
“Nong Hong Castle also means a lot to local people. Please bring the lintel back,” he said.
Sontaya Khumchum of Non Din Daeng also said locals thought highly of the |castle, where various kinds of rituals are performed.
“I really want to see the return of the lintel,” he said.
