Talented left-hander Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, fresh from capturing the maiden Yonex Denmark Open World Superseries Premier in Odense, Denmark, has reached top 10 for the first time when the world’s badminton-governing body BWF announced the weekly world rankings on Thursday.

The 179cm-tall Tanongsak, who was ranked 18th in the BWF world ranking as of October 20, moved up nine rankings to presently become No.9, his best-ever ranking in the world. Tanongsak, who turned 26 on the day when grief has gripped the whole country due to the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, beat Korean Son Wan-Ho in pulsating two games in the final showdown to be crowned the Denmark Open champion.

Shortly after winning the last point of the second game, Tanongsak threw his racquet and lay down on the floor, being on cloud nine to win the championship in honour of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. To sports fans’ surprise, the Thai shuttler competed in Denmark on his own account and said in several TV programmes that he has no coach and no sponsor. If possible, he admitted that he needs sponsors to financially support him in contesting overseas tournaments and in hiring good coach for him.

Veteran and former Thailand Open Boonsak Ponsana dropped to world No.31 to become the second best Thai in the men’s singles of the BWF world ranking.

In the women’s singles category, sensation Ratchanok Intanon, who has already claimed three Supersedes events this year comprising Singapore Open, Malaysia Open and India Open, has also  climbed up to world No.2, while team-mates Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, Busanan Ongbamrungphan and Nichaon Jindapol have their world rankings unchanged to be ranked No.13, 14 and 18 respectively.

Bodin Isara/Nipitphon Phuangphuapet jumped up seven places to be ranked 20 in the world ranking in the men’s doubles, while Putita Supajirakul/Sapsiree Taerattanachai are now ranked No.12 in the women’s doubles. Bodin Isara partners Savitree Amitrapai to emerge as the best Thai mixed pairing to be ranked No.15 at present.
