New charter will go ahead as planned, PM says

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gave an assurance yesterday that the new constitution would be promulgated in line with the schedule set out in the 2014 interim charter.

The government would still seek royal endorsement by November 9. And the new King would consider it for 90 days before signing it, he said.

In regard to the preamble, Prayut said everyone had acknowledged that it needs to be amended following the passing of HM the King and the Constitutional Court had already ruled that it was viable.

He asked people not to worry, saying the new constitution would be promulgated regardless of the situation.
