Celebrities hand out bags to avoid a mountain of rubbish at Phu Tub Berk

Stars handed out black bags to tourists visiting Petchabun's Phu Tub Berk Mountain during long weekend as part of a campaign to tackle the chronic garbage problem at the scenic spot.

As Thailand celebrated Constitution Day, many tourists headed north for the cooler climes of the mountains. During this period, Phu Tub Berk Mountain welcomes thousands of tourists each day, which usually results in piles of rubbish being left at the site afterwards.
To tackle the problem at source, Phetchabun Provincial Governor Piboon Hatthakitkosol joined celebrities such as Jill Roger, Than Thanakorn, Yui Chiranan, and Aiem Wassaporn to distribute garbage bags to the tourists before they went on the mountain. The bags would allow them to collect their rubbish and dispose of it properly after leaving the site.
It was reported that the tourists had responded well and generally cooperated with local anti-litter rules.
Piboon said that during the three-day-weekend, up to Bt15 |million will be generated from |the tourism activities at Phu Tub Berk. It was estimated that |around 5,000 tourists would |visit the site each day.
