12 southern provinces brace for new round of flooding

THE DEPARTMENT of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a warning for 12 southern provinces to brace for potentially massive rainfalls in the next five days, starting Monday.

Just hit by massive floods which have not completely receded, the southern provinces have been asked to take preparatory measures to cope with the situation to prevent further damages and casualties, as the death toll from the earlier inundation has reached 41.
Five of the 12 provinces are now on high alert for flash floods and landslide, including highrisk areas of Lang Suan district in Chumporn province; Patoh and Lamae districts of Surat Thani province; Ta Chana, Chaiya, Ta Chang, and Kanchanadit districts of Nakorn Si Thammarat province; as well as some districts of Pattalung and Song Khla provinces.
