Prominent figures named on reform, reconciliation and national strategy panel

Thirty-nine experts from the private sector and academia have been invited to sit on the government-initiated committee working on reform, reconciliation and national strategy.

Included on the committee’s reform preparation committee are the former chairman of the now-defunct National Reform Council, Thianchai Kiranan; the former chairman of the defunct Constitution Drafting Committee, Borwornsak Uwanna; and the ex-secretary general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Supachai Panitchpakdi, said the committee’s secretary Suvit Maesincee.

Big names from the private sector – including Kasikorn Bank chairman Banthoon Lamsam and Bangkok Bank president Chartsiri Sophonpanich – will sit on the strategic administration committee.
General Ekkachai Srivilas, former member of the NRC’s reconciliation study committee, will join Anek Laothammatat on the reconciliation preparation committee.
The name lists will be proposed to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for endorsement within days.
The committee members are due to meet in early March.
