Demonising politics spreading fear: Amnesty

Politics of demonisation has fractured and proliferated fear among global citizens over the past year amid an increase in repressive laws to criminalise peaceful expression, the Amnesty International (AI) said in its annual report evaluating worldwide human rights situations yesterday.

Thailand is also among 159 countries the AI scrutinised this year and raised the government’s use of extrajudicial powers, curbs on freedom of expression through the enforcement of draconian laws in claims of security protection, unjust prosecution against rights defenders and insufficient protection towards refugees remain as rights concerned.
The report was launched by the AI Thailand at a Bangkok hotel on the day.
