The Supreme Court on Thursday reduced the sentence of convicted lese-majeste activist Somyot Prueksakasemsuk to seven years.

The verdict reversed the criminal and the appeal courts’ sentences of 10 years for lese-majeste crimes regarding the publishing of two articles. Somyot was instead sentenced to six years in jail for the offences.

The activist was sentenced to an additional year in jail for defaming General Saprang Kalayanamitr.

Somyot has already been in prison for almost six years.
