Revenue Dept chief may face action over Thaksin's tax case

Auditor-General Pisit Leelavachiropas has threatened to take legal action against the head of the Revenue Depart over Thaksin’s tax disputes.

Pisit said Tuesday that the Revenue Department should collect more taxes from the family of former prime minster Thaksin Shinawatra on the sale of shares of Shin Corporation.
In January 2006, Ample Rich Investment, a firm owned by Thaksin, sold 11 per cent of Shin Corp to his children a few days before Shin Corp was taken over by Singapore government-owned Temasek Holdings in deal worth Bt73 billion.
The transaction raised the question of whether it was liable to tax. The tax authorities did not collect any taxes from Thaksin’s family.
But later the Criminal Court jailed the tax authorities for failing to collect from Thaksin’s family.
