Over 80% of Thais believe King Rama IX’s sufficiency economy solution for economic woes

Most people believe that the much-praised sufficiency economy philosophy of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the most effective solution for solving economic hardship of the people, an opinion survey has found.

The survey was carried out by the Super Poll pollster among 1,201 people of various professions from Monday to Saturday. The results were announced Sunday.
The survey found that 83.7 per cent of the respondents saw that economic woes and people’s economic hardship were major issues that happened during all governments’ tenures.
And 81.6 per cent of the respondents expressed confidence that the sufficiency economy philosophy initiated by King Rama IX was the most effective solution for the economic hardship. The survey also found that 80.8 per cent of the respondents claimed they are now living their life on the philosophy.
But when asked to give examples of their sufficiency economy life, the respondents seemed to provide those of the opposite. The survey found that 95 per cent of the cited examples stated that they spent money to buy things at will without planning in advance while 67.1 per cent said their spending was higher than their income. The respondents were allowed to give more than one answer.
To the same question, 46.7 per cent said they would not mind a corrupt government as long as it shares what it has earned while 36.7 per cent said they have been recording book of income and spending systematically.
