CPF expands its export channels to EU countries with Westbridge deal

CPF Investment Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Foods, has signed a share purchase agreement with Westbridge Food Group Ltd (WFGL) worth about 60 million pounds (Bt2.6 billion).

WFGL is a UK-based seller of meat and ready-made products to customers in the retail, food service and food manufacturing sectors in the UK and elsewhere in the European Union.
The company also engages in the development, sourcing and supply of products across many food groups worldwide.
WFGL has investments in 117 companies in the UK and 16 companies in the Netherlands that have import quota licences for poultry meats and other poultry products coming into the EU. In addition, WFGL also has a repacking factory in England to serve customers’ demands.
In 2015, WFGL recorded revenue of Bt14.73 billion, with Bt173 million in net profit.
Adirek Sripratak, chairman of the executive committee of CPF, said the investment in WFGL will allow CPF to expand its distribution network for customers in the retail, food service and food manufacturing sectors in the UK and other EU countries with high market potential.
Most of WFGL's markets are new customers group rather than CPF's existing clients. WFGL's products mainly comprise chicken, shrimp, fish and processed foods that are in line with CPF’s product.
In addition, CPF will have an import quota licence for chicken products to the EU, as WFGL has more than 100 subsidiaries with import quotas.
Its management team also has experience in food business management. This investment will encourage CPF’s export opportunities to the UK and Europe.
