The election commissioner in charge of political party development, Theerawat Theerarojwit, said the committee, chaired by the former chair of the now-defunct reconciliation study committee, Anek Laothammathat, had convened to discuss improving political party and politicians’ standards and quality.
Theerawat said politicians were largely perceived as bad people, but among them were some good ones who wished the country well and had the experience to implement that goal.
The committee would help link these “good ones” to their representatives, Theerawat said.
The committee is expected to be a platform where divisive politicians will work together under Anek, who has proposed “a grand coalition” to help boost political reconciliation, whereas the government has been attempting to develop a “social contract” through a series of talks with party representatives.
