King sends Royal Guards to assist in flood prevention
His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has sent the Ratcha Wallop Royal Guards to join state agencies, volunteers and public members in dredging Bangkok's clogged canals and waterways to boost the city's drainage capacity and prevent future flooding.
National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) deputy spokeswoman Colonel Sirichan Ngathong said on Monday that Army chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart was deeply grateful for the King's help, during the NCPO secretariat meeting on Monday.
She said that the NCPO and government urged all sides to join in flood prevention and other efforts to solve the flood crisis.
She said Bangkok could make use of its community leaders' network and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's potential to drain flood areas, while surrounding provinces and elsewhere should prepare to face a higher volume of water in this rainy season and implement measures to solve the flood problem efficiently.
