Yingluck has been charged with negligence for failing to prevent corruption in the scheme. The scheme allegedly wasted an estimated Bt500 billion from the state budget. Yingluck herself has been charged in a criminal case, and told to compensate a part of the losses.
Her lawyer on Thursday petitioned the court to extend the period as 20 more witnesses were due to give testimonies. The court is scheduled to rule on the case after two more rounds of hearing. Her lawyer said it was up to the court to consider the petition.
On Thursday, at least two relatives of farmers who had committed suicide in Roi Et and Nonthaburi provinces testified before court as her witnesses. They would inform the court that the suicidal were personal.
