The Army has dispatched 26 companies of troops to carry out relief operations in the eight flood-hit northeastern provinces, Army deputy spokeswoman Colonel Sirichan Ngathong said on Monday.

She said Army commander-in-chief General Chalermchai Sitthisat has also dispatched MI17 helicopters to fly relief bags to villages that are difficult to reach in vehicles and boats.
The helicopters are being used in Sakon Nakhon, the hardest hit province, she said, adding that they are transporting relief bags from Khon Kaen province on Monday to distribute to flood victims in Phannanikom, Wanorn Niwas, Akas Amnuay and Kham Ta Kla districts.
She said 2,300 troops, along with 108 trucks and 39 boats, are helping flood victims in Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Yasothon, Chaiyaphum and Mukdahan provinces.
She said the Army’s operation includes eight mobile medical teams and five mobile kitchen teams.
