Sunday drenching for Phuket

Consistent, heavy rains drenched Phuket early Sunday morning and emergency services were stretched to assist drivers and motorcyclists who were stuck in flooded roads.

Quite a few patches of Viset Road, Rawai, were impassable, with rain failing to run off into the roadside drains. Some short showers around 7am turned into heavier rain as the morning progressed.
Although the official forecast was for “scattered thunderstorms”, most of the island endured steady rain for most of the day.
The Thai Meteorological Department has been warning people in the North and Northeast about tropical Storm Pakhar heading their way at about 25 km/hr from Hainan Island in southern China and upper Vietnam.
The Department said the worst affected areas yesterday and today were the North and the Northeast.
