A Buddhist monk was found hanged from a tree behind his temple two days after he chanted prayers for his mother’s funeral, police said.

The body of Phra Pian Phakdee, 40, was found in a forested area behind Wat Taptim Nimitr in Tambon Dan of Kabchoeng district of Surin on Tuesday evening.
Other monks at the temple told police that Phra Pian was last seen on Sunday night when he took part in the chanting of prayers at the funeral rite for his mother, San Phakdee, 71. The mother died of natural causes.
