Ministry seeks time to probe cadet’s death

FRIDAY, November 24, 2017

The Defence Ministry has sought time to let its fact-finding committee investigate the recent death of an Army cadet.

“We will definitely find out the truth and ensure justice to all sides,” the ministry’s spokesman, Lt General Kongcheep Tantravanich, said on Friday. “But please give the committee time to do its job.”
Phakhapong “Meay” Tanyakan, a first-year cadet at the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, died on October 17 in what his family believes are suspicious circumstances.
Kongcheep explained that the committee would have to wait for the results of medical tests, which might take about seven days.
According Phakhapong’s family, the cadet almost died in August because of the punishment he faced at the military school.
