Alleged dozing-off driver triggers 7-vehicle pileup in Samut Sakhon

A university student allegedly dozed off behind the wheel before hitting a pickup that crashed into three other pickups and two motorcycles as well as a road-side khaotom shop in Samut Sakhon early on Friday, police said.

Pol Captain Worawut Piamsomboon, deputy inspector of Krathumban police station, said the accident happened at 1.30am on the Setthakit 1 Road in Tambon Klong Madua of Samut Sakhon’s Krathumban district.
Three people were injured in the accident, including the student, identified as Pasunuda Mongkol, 21.
Worawut said police interrogated people involved in the accident and learned that Pasunuda’s Mazda 2 car hit a white Toyota pickup in front of her, sending the pickup out of control. The Toyota pickup then hit three other pickups and two motorcycles before hitting the khaotom shop.
The owners of the motorcycles and three other pickups were dining at the khaotom shop. While none of them were injured, the Toyota pickup driver and a passenger were injured.
The three injured were rushed to Krathuban Hospital.
Worawut said police will continue the investigation before placing charges.
