Young, seniors warned to exercise and stay warm in cold weather

Doctors have warned children and the elderly to stay warm and take care of their health keep during the latest cold snap, with a 20 per cent increase in the number of patients being attributed to the colder weather.

As a new wave of cold wind from China blanketed the upper part of Thailand for the weekend, Buriram Public Health Office on Saturday reported the surge of patients with respiratory diseases rose 20 per cent in the province from the rapid temperature drop.
It was reported that the temperature in the Northeast province of Buriram had plummeted from 24 degrees Celsius to only 17 degrees Celsius in the span of one night.
The rapid change of weather was blamed for an increase in patient numbers at all hospitals and clinics in Buriram. Some 200 patients a day, most of them children and the elderly, attended Buriram Hospital, suffering from respiratory diseases.
Dr Wichit Saritdeechaikul, head of Buriram Public Health Office, suggests people maintain strong health through regular exercise and staying warm in order to avoid getting sick this winter. Young people and seniors should take particular care, he said.
