Tourists invited to February crab-eating festival in Bang Khun Thian

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will hold a festival to promote tourism in the Bang Khun Thian mangrove forests next month, BMA deputy city clerk Suwanna Jungrungruan said on Friday.

Suwanna held a press conference at the Klong Pitthayalongkorn School in Bang Khun Thian to announce the second “Riding boat to eat crab and observe Bang Khun Thian sea people’s way of life” fair to be held at the school from February 1 to 5.
Tourists will be able to buy fresh and dried seafood, ride bicycles on tracks to observe the mangrove forests and take boats to view the Bang Khun Thian sea.
Suwanna said Bang Khun Thian is the only part of Bangkok with a five-kilometre-long coast, ideal for development as a mangrove forest tourist attraction. Visitors could learn about mangrove forest ecosystems and the life of local fishermen.
She said the BMA has a goal to increase the area of mangrove forests on Bang Khun Thian coast to 3,000 rai (480 hectares), and is planning to plant 360 rai of mangrove forests this year.
