Former monk ‘admits killing lover’s husband’

Police say a Chiang Mai man has admitted killing the husband of his secret lover, at her request, and quitting the monkhood after eight years to be with her.

Banlua Uboonma, 32, arrested over the weekend, re-enacted the crime on Monday morning for Mae Ping police investigators.
He is accused of slashing the throat of Supakorn Yawichai, 46, whose body was found beside his van in Muang Chiang Mai at 7pm on February 22.
Also arrested was Supakorn’s wife, Wathita Boontom, 32.
Banlua told investigators he’d known Wathita since high school, but his family moved to Phetchabun and he subsequently spent eight years in the monkhood.
Banlua was still a monk when he got reacquainted with Wathita on Facebook last year and a relationship developed.
He said he agreed to leave the monkhood in December to be with her.
She asked him to murder her husband first, he claimed.
Banlua said he watched Supakorn for three days, then picked a fight with him and killed him, and fled to his former temple, where he was arrested.
