A spectacled langur was hit and killed by a vehicle as it crossed a road in Loei’s Muang district on Friday morning. The animal is believed to have been searching for food.

A company worker, Nuanchan Ngamsit, saw the accident and rushed to remove the dead langur from the Loei-Chiang Khan road in Tambon Nai Muang.
Nuanchan said she saw two langurs trying to cross the road into town. One was hit by a speeding vehicle that failed to stop. The other langur jumped onto the road island and the re-crossed the road and retreated back into forest.
Local residents said the number of spectacled langurs living on a mountain near Wat Tham Pha Poo has increased beyond the available food supply, prompting some to seek food in town.
