Drug mule arrested, 2.8m meth pills seized in Chiang Mai

Troops from the Fourth Calvary Regiment arrested an alleged drug mule and seized 2.84 million methamphetamine pills on Friday evening.

Third Army Area commander Lt-General Wichak Siribansop said the arrest was made in Ban Arunothai village in Tambon Muang Na in Chiang Dao district.
The troops were patrolling the border area in the village and spotted two men carrying bags. When the suspects saw the troops, one of them managed to run back into the forest.
The troops arrested a stateless man, identified as Lao Boontai, then searched the area and found 19 bags containing drugs.
Wichak said the pills carried various brands – an eagle perching on an apple, 999, and Y1 – indicating that the seized drugs came from three different manufacturers.
He said the Southern Wa group was known to make the eagle band while the Y1 brand came from the Northern Wa group.
