Bus services to increase for Songkran travellers
The number of buses from Bangkok to the provinces will increase by about 2,690 trips daily during the long Songkran holidays so more than 201,000 passengers could be accommodated each day, according to Jirasak Yaowatsakul, the managing director of Transport Company.
Jirasak said the number of bus services from the company and other firms would increase from 6,193 to 8,853 each day from April 10 to 13, to be able to cope with the estimated 201,000 passengers who want to leave the capital.
For people returning from the provinces to Bangkok from April 15 to 18, the number of trips would increase from 6,095 to 8,082 daily to cope with some 181,547 passengers, he said.
Although the Transport Company will increase the number of bus trips during the holiday period, a lot of passengers are also expected to use vans. Jirasak said the Transport Company would cooperate with van operators to prepare enough vehicles to provide 1,400 trips each day.
