Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered military compounds in Bangkok to provide rush-hour shortcuts to motorists, the Defence Ministry spokesman said.

Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit, spokesman for the Defence Ministry, said Prawit gave the order during a meeting of military commanders on Wednesday morning.
Kongcheep quoted Prawit saying the commanders supported ongoing efforts to tackle traffic woes in the capital and surrounding provinces.
In particular, the military compounds near the construction sites of electric trains must allow motorists to take shortcuts to avoid congestion during rush hour, Kongcheep said.
