Bangkok gold shop heist gives thief Bt3m payday
Police are searching for a man in his mid-30s who stole gold ornaments worth a combined Bt3 million from a shop at Big C Rama 4 in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district on Thursday afternoon.
National police deputy commissioner Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakan attended a meeting of investigators at Thong Lor Police Station on Friday morning.
The thief was described as about 35, 170 centimetres tall, heavyset and wearing a wig of curly, shoulder-length hair, a white long-sleeve sweater, and dark trousers.
He pointed a pistol at three clerks at the Aurora Gold Shop and claimed to have a bomb, and
demanded they place the ornaments worth Bt3,181,600 in total in several shopping bags he was carrying.
A CCTV camera caught the robber running from the back of the mall and fleeing on a yellow Yamaha Fino motorcycle.
Police found the brown paper bag which the thief had claimed contained a bomb. All it held was a large rock.
