King comes to aid of injured sport student
His Majesty the King has arranged for a 15-year-old who was injured while lifting weights at her school to be flown to Bangkok for treatment.
Natthathida Suchartpong will on June 4 be flown from Thung Song Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat to better-equipped Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok.
A student at Nakhon Si Thammarat Sports School, Natthathida – known to family and friends as Nong Fa – was attempting to lift a barbell on May 27 when she fell and badly injured her back.
She underwent surgery at the local hospital, but doctors there give her little chance for a full recovery and suspect she might remain paralysed from the waist down.
Her mother made a public appeal for further help and the word reached the Palace.
His Majesty on June 1 assigned Colonel Sorat Samutwanij to visit Natthathida and relay the King’s concern and offer assistance under his patronage.
Natthathida and her family have expressed deep gratitude the King’s kindliness.
