According to the website, President Trump has named the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Robert C. O’Brien as his special envoy to the Summits. He will be accompanied by Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, who will be the senior United States Government representative at the second annual Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Bangkok. Ross is leading an executive trade mission to Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam from November 3-8, 2019.
O’Brien is a veteran foreign policy hand who served as a US hostage negotiator and replaced John Bolton as national security advisor after Bolton and Trump disagreed over a range of foreign policy matters involving Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea.
