Get your electricity deposit back

Get your electricity deposit back

Electricity consumers can begin registering on March 25 to have their deposits on the service returned, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announced on Thursday (March 19).

“This is aimed at complementing the government’s policy on alleviating people’s financial burden during the economic slowdown and Covid-19 pandemic,” said deputy secretary-general Komkrit Tantravanich.
“Deposits paid for electricity for use in residential houses and small business will be returned to those who register.”
He said the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and Sattahip Electricity Authority have 23 million users who are eligible to recoup their deposits.
“We estimate that more than Bt33 billion will be returned,” Komkrit said.
“After March 31, no deposit will be required from new users for homes and small businesses.”
Electricity users outside Metropolitan Bangkok can check online if they’re eligible at https://dmsxupload.pea.co.th/cdp/. If so, they can receive the deposit via bank account transfer, Prompt Pay, state welfare card or cash from any PEA office.
Electricity users in Metro Bangkok can register at www.mea.or.th or via the “MEA Smart Life” mobile application or by scanning the QR code on a power bill and receive the deposit via Prompt Pay, bank account transfer and Counter Service (maximum amount Bt50,000).
Registration can also be done at (02) 256 3333 from March 25-29, daily except weekends and public holidays from 8am to 3.30pm.
