(Update) Thailand continued to maintain the recent trend of single-digit daily increase in Covid-19 cases as four more people tested positive, while one patient died during a 24-hour period, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Saturday (May 9).

Of the four new cases, three are Thai women -- a 36-year old from Bangkok, a 28-year old who worked at a department store in Phuket and had gone back to her hometown in Prachinburi, and one in Yala -- while the only male patient was from Yala. The total number of confirmed cases rose to 3,004 of which 2,787 have recovered. The number of fatalities went up to 56.
A Thai businessman, 68, in Bangkok was the latest fatality.
Eight confirmed cases were reported on May 8, but there were no deaths.

The meeting of the centre on Saturday also discussed the plan to conduct trial reopening of some places and evaluate the result, as Thailand is considering implementing the second phase of the easing of the lockdown from May 17.
The centre said if the trial passes the test, the country will move on to the second phase on May 17.
