The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on Friday (May 15) decided against reopening Phuket International Airport from 12.01am on May 16 given the lingering risk of Covid-19 outbreak. The airport will remain closed until further notice, CAAT said.

The aviation authority announced that though Phuket has effectively curbed the outbreak, there is still the risk of a second wave of infections. Hence, under the advice of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, CAAT decided to revoke its approval on May 14 for the airport to resume operations on May 16.
