Major flooding was the most frequently cited emergency concern in a NIDA Poll survey conducted across Thailand on November 2–3, 2026, with 34.58% of respondents identifying it as a risk that could require households to keep three to seven days’ essential supplies.
NIDA Poll, the opinion survey centre at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), interviewed 1,310 people aged 18 and over for its survey, “Stockpiling food, medicine and drinking water!” The poll examined public views on reports that countries around the world had advised people to keep enough food, medicine, drinking water and other necessities for three to seven days.
Across NIDA Poll’s full sample of 1,310 adults, 77.63% had heard the reports about overseas stockpiling advice, while 22.37% had not.
NIDA Poll found that 48.57% of the 1,017 respondents who had heard reports of overseas stockpiling advisories wanted the Thai government to wait until the situation was clearer before issuing a similar warning. A further 36.09% favoured issuing a warning as soon as possible, while 15.34% considered one unnecessary.
Among the 1,017 NIDA Poll respondents who had heard the overseas stockpiling reports, 35.89% were not concerned at all and 32.84% were not particularly concerned. By comparison, 26.94% were fairly concerned and 4.33% were very concerned.
Major flooding and energy shortages led NIDA Poll respondents’ concerns about emergencies that could arise in the near future.
Asked about domestic or overseas developments that could affect Thailand and make three to seven days’ essential supplies necessary, respondents gave the following answers:
NIDA Poll interviewed 1,310 people aged 18 and over by telephone on November 2–3, using probability-based, multi-stage sampling from its master sample database. Participants came from every region and a range of educational backgrounds, occupations and income groups. The pollster reported a margin of error of no more than 0.05 at a confidence level of 97.0%.
The regional breakdown of NIDA Poll’s respondents was Bangkok (8.47%), the Central region (18.78%), the North (17.71%), the Northeast (33.21%), the South (13.89%) and the East (7.94%).
Men accounted for 47.94% of NIDA Poll’s sample and women 52.06%. By age, 11.98% were 18–25, 17.56% were 26–35, 17.71% were 36–45, 25.80% were 46–59 and 26.95% were 60 or over.
