Visitors flood Nakhon Phanom’s scenic Nong Wai Lake

Nakhon Phanom’s Nong Wai Lake has become a tourist magnet again as visitors descend on the area amid a third phase of lockdown easing, grabbing rafts to take in the lake’s natural beauty.

The president of a local rafting business, Lian Chidpak, said yesterday (June 7) that Nong Wai has suffered the impact of the Covid-19 crisis, but the government’s recent lockdown easing has boosted tourism again. However, raft operators and restaurants are taking Covid-19 preventive measures, such as making sanitisers available and checking the temperature of all tourists. Moreover, visitors are limited to 10 per raft and alcohol sales are prohibited.

Nong Wai, a natural lake covering more than 100 rai in Fung Dang sub-district, was developed into a local reservoir and tourist attraction.

The price to rent a raft for the first hour is Bt250 and Bt100 for the next. It’s Bt1,050 for a whole day. Part of the revenue earned is handed to local people to develop their villages.
