Panya was the 18th person to be infected by the virus in the province during the new wave. He reportedly picked up the infection from his patients.
Panya tested positive on February 1 and was treated in Mahasarakham Hospital before being shifted to Khon Kaen Hospital. His death was announced on Thursday morning, while his funeral was held in the evening.
A villager said Panya was a kind person who cared about people's health, adding that he treated poor people at an affordable price.
