Israel to compensate Thai workers hit by missile strike

The Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv reported that at 2.35pm local time on Tuesday, rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip by the Hamas group into Israel’s Eshkol, a town located 14 kilometres away.

The strike killed two Thai workers at an agricultural-product packaging factory and injured eight others. One of them required surgery for serious injuries.

“According to the regulations of Israel’s National Insurance Institute, workers who are injured or 10-19 per cent disabled receive one-time compensation of 150,000 shekels, or about THB1.5 million,” said Suchart. “In cases of more than 20 per cent disability, workers are compensated at 6,000 shekels per month (THB60,000) until death.”

In case of death while working, the victim’s wife is compensated at 60 per cent of the monthly compensation of 6,000 shekels (about THB36,000 per month) until she remarries. The victim’s children receive 10-20 per cent of 6,000 shekels, or about THB6,000-12,000 every month until they are 18 years old.

“On top of this, the Labour Ministry’s fund for Thai workers overseas will pay medical costs of up to THB30,000 for each injured person, while families of the deceased will receive THB40,000 compensation plus a funeral allowance of up to THB40,000,” said Suchart.

The ministry also revealed the names of the Thai nationals killed and injured in Tuesday’s strike.

Killed were Weerawat Karanborirak, 44, from Phetchabun, and Sikharin Sa-ngamrum, 24, from Buri Ram.

The injured were:

3. Chettha Phalaphrom, 40, from Udon Thani

4. Thanadol Khanthachai, 26, from Udon Thani

5. Preecha Saeli, 32, from Chiang Rai

6. Somsak Janphakdi, 26, from Surin

7. Jaratsri Klakhaeng, 39, from Nong Khai

8. Jakkri Rattapholthee, 31, from Nong Bua Lamphu
